Alex and I found ourselves occupied during most evenings and weekends, handling private projects alongside our full-time commitments with other companies. As demand for our services grew beyond our capacity within the confines of our limited spare time, a pivotal decision arose. While I possessed a strong drive to venture out on our own and give entrepreneurship a shot, Alex remained a touch uncertain.
After meticulously addressing the finer points and devising a comprehensive strategy, we eventually arrived at the choice to establish 'Chess Roofing' in the latter part of 2020. Subsequently, word spread, attracting an escalating influx of projects that initiated a chain reaction. This momentum culminated in the formation of 'Chess Roofing LTD' in 2021, prompting us to swiftly enlist additional assistance to manage the mounting workload.

Navigating Challenges: A Journey from Roofer to Entrepreneur
There has been many challenges along the way, as I am sure any business owner would admit. I was taught how to roof but never taught how to run a business, we had to learn that ourselves (bar doing a small amount of business at GCSE level). No matter how prepared you think you are, you can never predict some of the challenges you will face. We have genuinely put blood, sweat and tears into this company but have always agreed to stick to what we want to be known for and come back to our company ethos. Me and Alex are very lucky to have each other as it always helps to have someone to rely on or even talk ideas through with. I find we are both great at different things which really helps, as there is no point excelling in the same field. What I lack, Alex covers and visa versa.
